Civil War Diaries

This is the first page from Corporal Regan's first, Civil War diary manuscript. Beautiful ink and quill penmanship with a wonderful artistic flair. At the beginning of the rebellion he starts his diary like most people did, in a small bible type book but then, as he writes June 2nd, 1862. "I bought a record book at the Sutlers today in which to keep my diary, and Hugh Dorrington, a wagoner belonging to our company, has promised to take care of it in his wagon when we are not in camp. I also bought a piece of oiled silk with which to make a bag in which to keep the book."

Civil War Diary

This is the second title page of Corporal Regan's diary, from the second diary manuscript. He starts this manuscript July 19th, 1863. Just after the battle of Gettysburg.
